This is a space for personalized mentoring for those navigating the complexities of a creative practice — looking for an experienced companion through the process — and for those outside the art world who need artistic thinking applied to a specific problem: visual identity, event concept, creative strategy, or public image.
After 20 years working in photography, art direction, visual communication, interdisciplinary art, mediation, and education, I have moved across many contexts and creative constellations — editorial, artistic, commercial, nonprofit, institutional, and independent. From this experience, I have gathered a deep understanding of what it means to develop a visual language, build a coherent body of work, and find my way within the professional landscape.
For me, creativity is not a choice. It is closer to breathing — something I cannot imagine living without. It is what kept me going. It is why I did not give up. Central to my work is a passion for visual language: how ideas move from concept to visibility and readability, how a body of work speaks and manifests on its own, how method transforms its profound meaning into a visual. I believe that the quality of form ensures an idea's longevity — and I work to make sure substance and form are balanced in both quality and clarity.
Because I am a single parent, an immigrant, with limited resources, doing everything myself while navigating daily life, which leaves little margin. I am almost entirely DIY. I started my career in a new country, entirely from scratch, with no network. I could not afford to outsource the invisible work, so I did it all myself — and in doing so, I developed a breadth of skills and a spectrum of knowledge I would never have gained otherwise. I navigated diverse professional environments, found solutions under real constraints, and, above all, became a master of adaptation.
This is what I bring to mentoring: a hard-won practice. The knowledge that pace and quantity matter less than authenticity and quality. The ability to keep moving through difficulty. The experience of building something meaningful with what you have — not with what you wish you had.
These are things I have lived, and they are what I am willing to share with you. My commitment is to walk alongside you — not to reshape you, but to help you become more fully yourself.
My underlying belief is that clarity of process and intent enables us to become more fully ourselves — as artists, as professionals, as people. I engage in critical, honest dialogue not to judge but to help you see what's already working and what's getting in the way.
People at all levels of experience are welcome.
Experience across editorial photography, art direction, artistic practice, visual identity, and art education — formal and informal, for children, youth, and adults.
Experience from the inside — I work from a home studio, relocated abroad with a child, and know what it means to build something under real constraints. I'm not selling you an ideal. I'm offering what actually works.
A specific philosophy — not self-optimization, not hustle. Finding your strengths, identifying your friction points, and building structures that fit your actual life.
Knowledge of the field — the European photography and art scene, German grants, institutions, and funding structures. The institutional landscape, its meanders, and the cultural workers behind it.
A real network — I connect people. If I can't help you directly, I may know someone who can.
Let's explore your work together - A single feedback session:
Fresh eyes — Professional feedback. You can send me a PDF, along with a brief description and your goals or questions. We’ll have a one-hour online session where we’ll review everything together—honest, focused, and helpful. It’s perfect if you've just finished a project, feel stuck, or simply want a fresh perspective.
Creative consultation. For those outside the art world who need artistic thinking applied to a specific problem: visual identity, event concept, funding application, or public image.
Let's link the pieces — matchmaking and understanding the field. You require guidance, a contact, a network, and clear directions. I am familiar with the landscape — both in Germany and internationally.
Let's go deeper — Mentoring, 6–12 sessions. If you're looking for more long-term support, we can work on developing your project, portfolio, or overall direction. We’ll focus on concepts, narratives, editing, presentation, and strategy. We'll also tackle some of the harder questions: what you want to create, why it matters, and how to keep moving forward.
This is for you if:

How do I get started? Write to me at mail@joannaszproch.com with a short description of where you are and what you're looking for. I'll be honest with you if I feel I'm not the right fit — but if I am, we'll take it from there.
How many sessions should I book? That depends on where you are and what you need. Start with a single session if you're unsure — after our first meeting, we can decide together whether and how to continue.
What should I prepare before our first session? Send me a PDF or link to your work, a short description, and your main question or goal. The more specific you are, the more we can get out of our time together.
Can I cancel or reschedule? Yes — but I require 24 hours' notice. This applies to both of us.
Do I need to pay in advance? Yes, payment is required before the session.
